On Saturday evening January 17 just before midnight, Bethel 911 received a call reporting a building on fire at 44 Stony Hill Rd, the old Lampost Apartments. The building is a 7 unit efficiency apartment building. The building is located diagonally from the Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Dept. Assistant Chief Galliford directed dispatch to send a mutual aid tanker from Brookfield well before FD arrival to be sure an adequate water supply was available due to a lack of hydrants in the area. The Stony Hill and Bethel Fire Depts responded on a full structure fire assignment bringing 3 engines, Bethel Tower 1, Rescue 2 and two tankers.

Engine 3 arrived within minutes and found fire showing from a window and door of an end unit. Chief Ken Parciasepe arrived on scene and took command of the incident. The Lieutenant from Engine 3 directed his crew to stretch a line to the fire apartment as others made sure all occupants were evacuated. The tenants were swiftly put into Stony Hill Ambulance 3 and Bethel Ambulance 1 to stay out of the cold

An additional tanker was called for from Beaver Brook Co 11 in Danbury. Brookfield also sent an Engine and took in an automatic alarm in the Stony Hill district during the fire fight.

Units had the fire under control within 30 minutes but remained on scene for several hours for overhaul. The fire found its way into the common attic space and required extensive overhaul of pressboard attached to the roof rafters.
